On August 17th, members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee sent a letter to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Treasury Secretary Mnuchin, encouraging the Administration to push for structural reforms in the DRC. The DRC hasn’t exactly been a focus in Congress this year but we’d love to get it back on everyone’s radar. Join us in thanking the senators that signed the letter by signing our letter below.
Dear Chairman Risch, Ranking Member Menendez, Senators Rubio, Booker, Cardin, Coon, Cruz, Kaine, and Perdue,
Thank you for your letter to Secretaries Pompeo and Mnuchin, encouraging the Administration to push for structural reforms in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC.) As an organization that continues to work for peace and stabilization in DRC, we are grateful for your attention to the root causes of the rights abuses that continue to plague the country, particularly in the resource-rich east. We agree wholeheartedly with your insightful and comprehensive assessments and suggestions and stand ready to assist you in any way we can.
We believe that the Congolese people can create a just and thriving society when the opportunities are presented. The US has a chance to assist in eliminating obstacles that have held the country back for far too long. Your continued support for these efforts can and will bring about positive change.
Sincerely,
