LAND AND TECHNOLOGY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
We comprehend that land and technology acknowledgements are small yet important steps towards ensuring a culture of respect, truth and accountability in our communities. These words will remain but a small gesture unless they are combined with informed action.
These acknowledgements are a work in progress.
Never Again Coalition is based in Portland, Oregon which rests on the traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Watala bands of the Chinook, the Tualatin Kalapuya, Molalla and many other indigenous nations along the Columbia River. As guests on these lands we pay respect and honor the work of Indigenous Nations, leaders and families, and their knowledge, creativity, resilience, and resistance. We also acknowledge the systemic policies of genocide, relocation, and assimilation that still impact many Indigenous/Native American families today. In order to fight against these policies and unacceptable behaviors, occupiers of this land, including ourselves, must listen and amplify Indigenous people’s voices, while fighting against our own complicity.
Due to the pandemic, the Rising Up For Human Dignity series has become a completely online event. With that in mind, we would like to acknowledge that our organizers, performers, panelists and audience members are able to participate in this programming by using devices that contain in their essential components tin, tungsten, tantalum and gold, also known as conflict minerals. Fueled by corporate greed, consumer demand, government policies and inaction by the international community, the extraction from the earth and sale of conflict minerals has motivated and perpetuated armed conflict and contributed to societal instability, rape and other forms of extreme violence, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo. We are grateful for the means of connection and communication that rely on these precious resources and affirm our commitment to use them to advocate for justice, accountability, and restoration of peace and stability in the lands of their origin.
