Support Relief Efforts in Goma

On May 22, Mount Nyiragongo erupted, sending rivers of lava spreading towards the nearby city of Goma in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, forcing hundreds of thousands to evacuate. Following hundreds of earthquakes, there is anticipation for further volcanic activity. The humanitarian needs are huge at this time. Below are some ways you can help.

ECI’s Relief for goma

Eastern Congo Initative (ECI) is raising emergency funds to support relief efforts in Goma. Already, ECI grantees and partners have jumped to action to address the needs of the community. HEAL Africa is establishing and equipping pop-up clinics, and DFJ (the Women's Lawyers Movement) is working to reunite separated children. Any funds contributed will support these efforts and more.

SOS goma volcano relief

To help those affected and displaced by the volcano, a group of local organizations including Lucha and Yellow Sunday have launched this solidarity campaign, co-led by Yellow Sunday's goodwill ambassador Penielle Nsamba, aimed at collecting funds as well as food and non-food items to meet the immediate needs of the people impacted.

HELP RESTORE POWER AND WATER TO GOMA

Virunga National Park supplies more than 70% of Goma’s power, not only electrifying tens of thousands of homes and businesses but also enabling critical water stations on Lake Kivu to function for over a million people. With the loss of power to these pumping stations, this essential and life preserving service has been entirely disrupted.
